Background:
The roundtable, which was held in Budapest, is part of the project led by CASE – Center for Social
and Economic Research (http://www.case-research.eu/) and Overseas Development Institute (ODI,
http://www.odi.org.uk/) with the participation of the NGDO platforms from the Visegrad group
(Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, so called V4) and funded by the European Commission
and Visegrad Fund. The main objective of the project is to promote a greater understanding of the
development challenges, to facilitate greater public support in New Member States for poverty
reduction efforts and to contribute to more strategic and evidence-informed policy dialogue and
engagement for international development issues.

Objectives:
1. To learn about the importance of social and economic development impact of international
migration
2. To strengthen the participants knowledge about the theoretical background and to learn about
the global and local context of international migration
3. To discuss the role of development NGOs in Visegrad countries in the issues of international
migration and refugees

4. To gain practical skills and knowledge about working with the media

5. To learn about the differences of media work in the UK and in the Visegrad counties


Participants:
Representatives of the national NGDO platforms of the Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Hungary
and Poland; NGDO representatives from the host country (Hungary); experts; media representatives.
Representatives of ODI and CASE.
 
Outcomes:
Participants gain knowledge in international migration and refugees. Participants improve their
capacities in media work. Participants share their new knowledge with colleagues and peers.
